BMW models fitted with the Navigation system for iDrive 4.2 or later have access to real-time traffic information that can prove to be very useful in a variety of situations.
In order to access this data and have it displayed on the iDrive screen you have to follow a set of simple steps that we're going to explain in this guide. First of all you should make sure your vehicle receives traffic information.
To do so, from the iDrive main menu select Navigation and press the Option button located next to the controller. You'll enter a new menu and, by scrolling down, you'll see an "Receive Traffic Info" option. Activate it.
Next, from the Navigation screen, select Map views (the next to last character in the drop down list on the left) and then Additional Info. In the Additional Info menu you'll find an option for Traffic Flow. Select this and you'll see a check mark appear next to it.
Now, the Traffic Flow will be displayed. However, sometimes the color scheme might be a bit confusing so, in order to address this problem, you can activate a so-called Gray Map option.
To do so, from the Additional Info screen go back to the previous menu and click pn Traffic Information/Gray Map and that would be it. Now you activated the Gray Map feature. Enjoy!
