An example as good as any comes in the form of a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt SS. As most of you have figured out by now, people who buy Cobalt SS machines adore them.

Image the feeling the owner of this car had when he discovered his pride and joy got some serious keying back in 2011. The man explains on Reddit that it all happened in Southern California, in a middle-class neighborhood.

Nevertheless, he decided to make us of the negative momentum to customize his Chevy. As a result, the Cobalt SS has gone from a banal Navy Blue to Raspberry Metallic and can now qualify as eye candy.

In the process, the man also plastidipped the car's OEM rims and installed a set of headlights that use black inner graphics to go with the contrasting theme.

The delicate side of the story

Sure, when you're out there at SEMA and see a built car, the details should be all perfect, but this is a story from the real world, where not everybody affords to keep things in mint condition.

Thus, if you zoom in on the story, you find out the paint job isn't as nice as it might seem at first sight.

Those headlights? They may look cool, but the light they provide is always one step behind what you'd expect, as the owner explains.

According to the man, the color-changing process, which was covered by the insurance with a deductible saw the clear coat phase being skipped. Thus, the owner plans to have the coupe resprayed soon.

He's also considering upgrading things under the hood, having set himself a 320 WHP target. Let's hope these Cobalt SS ambitions turn into reality, as we always enjoy nice budget projects like thi.

PS: in case you were wondering, the Red Cobalt in the gallery bellow used to belong to the man's wife. Talk about things that run in the family...
