Back in the 1980s, WRC’s famed Group B class attracted huge crowds at venues around the world. This resulted in both spectacular races and unfortunate accidents that left hundreds of people dead or injured.
The Group B was eventually banned for 1987 after the death of Finish driver Henri Toivonen and the World Rally Championship lost it’s most powerful cars. While casualty figures have decreased since then, motorsport still is a common scene for accidents, and we almost saw one at this year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb “thanks” to four careless spectators.
Although a basic rule says you just have to stay away from the course, four idiots with legs thought it would a good idea to cross the road just a second before Sebastian Loeb’s Peugeot 208 T16 arrived at the scene.
