How About Some Real Steel Robot Boxing?

In 2010, the year most of us live in, robots are still a thing of the very distant future. Sure, we have ASIMO for quite some time now, but that guy doesn't know more than accompanying Honda to new car launches across the world. We also have Robonaut 2, but the legless machine is, because of NASA's repeated Discovery launch delays, nothing more than a useless toy for now.

We have, on the other hand, the Hollywood dreamers, who tell tales of outer space robots the size of a ten story building that came to Earth in search of Witwicky's Allspark. These guys like to morph into the latest car concepts and models but only on the big screens and at times in 3D.

Now, the same Hollywood that came up with the unlikely Transformers story comes with another epic interpretation of robots and the chores they will be forced to do. Who needs robots to built cars and ships, who needs robots to explore the Universe, who needs robots to make our lives easier? Nobody, right? But who needs robots who can box? What kind of question is that? We all do, of course.

Robot boxing is perhaps the single phrase needed to explain the synopsis of “Real Steel,” a movie coming out next year. Fresh out of ideas about X-Men, Hugh Jackman is becoming a puppeteer for an oversized chunk of metal, put into the ring to fight another similar chunk of metal, painted in different colors.

So, by the time intelligent machines get here, we'll have quite an extensive library of movies and legends about robots to tell them about. And oh, how they will laugh, and laugh, and then destroys us all. Enjoy!
