Hovding Helmet, the Airbag Collar for Lady Cyclists

Some of you have certainly thought of the possibility of eliminating the helmet from the moments when you are commuting on your bike, but how many of you thought of replacing the helmet with a collar that boasts a built-in airbag?

Two Swedish designers Anna Haupt and Terese Alstin have designed and developed such a special protective gear, as a couture proposal for the women cyclists.

“We wanted to develop a protection for cyclists that take account of the requests we got in our investigations. The protection would include preserving the sense of freedom and not ruin your hairstyle,” says Terese Alstin to the metroteknik.se.

Titled Hovding (Chieftain), the helmet looks like a regular scarf, with a removable shell that can be replaced to match different outfits, only that it is capable of inflating in 0,1 seconds when the built-in sensors detect the motion of the cyclist involved in an accident. The airbag is designed as a hood that surrounds and protects the head.

“The actual collar is the visible part of the invention. The shell of the collar is removable and available in many different styles and fabrics and will be launched in new collections. Hovding is a practical, handy accessory that is easy to carry, is stylish and unobtrusive in its design, while it saves your life,” added Anna Haupt.

Specifically, the Hovding helmet is made of durable nylon fabric that can withstand the scraping against the asphalt. The airbag keeps the pressure at a constant level for several seconds and can handle multiple scratches during the same incident.

If this peculiar helmet appeals to you, then we must inform you that will cost you no less than $3,000. Check out a video of a biker taking a fall wearing the Hovding:
