You should never mess with things you don’t understand or know, especially if they’re not your personal property. That’s the very expensive lesson one house sitter learned the hard way, after crashing her boss’ brand-new BMW i8.
The i8 is an exquisite car and it comes with a price tag to match: pricing for it starts at $145,000, depending on the version. Seeing it wrecked so foolishly can be painful for any car lover, but here it goes anywhere: at the bottom of the page, you will find a video of the most stupid i8 crash you’re likely to see. Ever.
The video was posted to a Facebook group one week ago and it’s been making the rounds since. It was caught by surveillance cameras in a posh residential area in Kempton Park, Johannesburg, Gauteng. Local reports say the woman was a house sitter or housekeeper who wanted to take her boss’ new ride for a spin.
She crashed as she was backing it out of the garage, when her foot must’ve slipped on the accelerator. She smashed it into a pole and a tree, it nearly avoided a small pond, and ended crashing into a neighbor’s wall. Damage to the rear of the car was severe, as the photos in the gallery attest.
After the crash, the woman emerges from the car with her shoes in her hand, looking distressed. Several other women, believed to be neighbors, run to her assistance, comforting her. As far as the car goes, there is nothing they can do to help her with that.
Citizen did some digging around and found that rental company Avis Rent a Car in Kempton Park has claimed the i8 as one of their own, confirming that they had rented it to someone living at that address. From that, it would be a safe bet to assume the female driver is also the renter.
Whether she’s the one who rented the car or an employee who dared to act on her dream of driving a flashy sports car, she’s in serious trouble.
Both Avis Rent and the police are investigating the accident.
