Hot Wheels Goes for Longest Jump at Indy 500

May 29, 2011. The date when the motorsport loving fans will come together at the famous Indianapolis track for the equally as famous Indy 500 race. And also the date when Hot Wheels hopes to destroy the world-record for longest jump in a four-wheel vehicle.

For that feat to be achieved, Hot Wheels will have to do some major changes to the miniature vehicles it usually builds. Firstly, and most importantly, the jump will not be made in a toy car, but in a real life replica of one. More precisely, a modified Pro2-style truck.

Behind the wheel of the truck will get one of the members of a new stunt group called Team Hot Wheels. The driver will have to start up the engine and then shoot towards the 90-foot ramp that will be installed in the fourth turn of the Indianapolis track.

The ramp on which the car will climb is a replica of a Hot Wheels element as well, namely a V-Drop track. According to 0-60mag, Hot Wheels and its stunt team are preparing for the jump in the California desert.

Why Hot Wheels will attempt to break the world record for longest jump in a four wheel vehicle (currently held by Johnny Greaves, who leaped 301 feet) is not a secret – the stunt is part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500 -, the name of the man who will be driving the truck is still a mystery. And, judging by the fuss created around his identity, we reckon it's a pretty familiar name (most definitely, that name will not be Donald Trump).
