Remember the Toyota Hilux Arctic truck Top Gear used to run the Arctic Challenge? Good, because we won’t talk about that here. There is another Toyota pickup that’s even tougher and it also set a record. Oh, and it’s on sale also...
The Toyota Polar Expedition is a one-off purpose built truck designed to work in the severe conditions in Antarctica. Based on a 2010 Toyota Tacoma purchased somewhere in South Carolina, the Polar broke two Guinness records crossing the Antarctic ice cap from Patriot Hill to the South Pole and back in 39 hour and 54 minutes, traveling at an average speed of 27.9 mph.

Powering the Polar is the original 4-liter V6 engine that got a TRD supercharger to make 341 bhp. Bolted to it is a recalibrated transmission that allows for more hp and torque to reach the wheels. The suspension and undercarriage are built by Marconi and features custom prop shafts, separate locking rear/front differentials, a custom crevasse bar, a full rollcage and a 9 ton winch.

The interior comes with four racing seats, extensive insulation, 4 HD cameras, sat nav and its menus are still containing the routing through Iceland and South Pole run.

The unique Toyota Tacoma Polar Expedition concept clocked around 14,000 miles and is said to run and look excellent, being expected to be sold for over $400,000.
