Horses Laughing Hard at Bad Trailer Parking Skills in a VW Commercial

Volkswagen seems to care a whole lot more about towing horse boxes than everybody else. There's even an optional feature that helps you park the trailer better because we all know animals don't deal with reversing very well. Don't buy it and the horses will make you feel really embarrassed with their laughter.

Honestly, this Toyota owner probably wishes he was dead. But can somebody who owns that particular version of the RAV4 really afford a horse? I mean the box alone looks twice as expensive as the car, so the guy must be laundering money.

While he grinds the gears and scrapes the bumpers, the stallions are doing their laughing hyena impersonations. The good news is that you can have the same system on the Passat and Touran, not just the Tiguan.

But what is Trailer Assist?

It is not a fully automatic system, but it takes most of the guesswork out of aiming a trailer to the right point. Boats, RVs and other types of small trailers also work, not just horse boxes.

Trailer Assist is controlled using the fob for the mirrors. By nudging it left or right, you can select one of eight pre-determined positions, after which the car takes care of the steering work. You can also rely on the reversing camera to see if anything is wrong. In the U.S., Ford offers a similar system called Pro Trailer Backup Assist on the F-150 pickup truck.

And if you really love your horse, Volkswagen even offers a way to link a GoPro camera to the infotainment screen. But for safety reasons, it only shows a still image every 5 seconds (so as not to distract you).

But this isn't the biggest stunt Volkswagen pulled regarding trailers. Back in January, the company's Norwegian arm built a special trailer that had its own steering system and a 1.4-liter engine. Showing incredible dedication to a good joke, the trailer was pulling the car backward, which raised a few eyebrows. Boy, talk about putting the cart before the horse!
