Horner Slams Berger's Accusations as Ridiculous

It did not take long for someone at Red Bull Racing to comment on the recent allegations made by former Grand Prix racer Gerhard Berger, according to which title contender Mark Webber would have preferred to take out one of his rivals in the recent Korean Grand Prix. Curiously enough, it wasn't the Australian driver who fought back, but his team manager Christian Horner.

The boss of the Milton-Keynes based team suggested that these accusations are ridiculous and that his driver had no intention of taking any racer with him – be him title rival or some other guy in the field – out of the race.

As with every incident in formula one, opinions will always be made without all the facts. Just to be absolutely clear – Mark's intention was not to take out another driver after his crash and it's ridiculous to suggest otherwise,” said Horner in a recent interview with The Telegraph.

It's absurd to suggest that Mark would ever deliberately take out another driver,” he added.

What Berger had suggested earlier this week was that Webber, after losing control of his car while running over a wet kerb, did not push the brakes immediately. He kept accelerating and, as far as the Austrian is concerned, that is a clear sign of him wanting to crash into someone else, once his chances of staying in the race had vanished.

In Horner's view however, the Aussie did not brake and tried to keep the car going due to a “natural and immediate instinct” racers have to keep their car in the race.

We'll remind you that in the early stages of the Korean Grand Prix last weekend, Webber lost control of his car and, while trying to keep it on the track, crashed into Mercedes' Nico Rosberg, the incident resulting in both drivers scoring a DNF.
