Hoonigan Teases Battle Broyale, Makes Us Forget About Gymkhana

Ken Block's Gymkhana videos are great, but they never really impressed us that much after the first one. Sure, his drifting skills are impressive and the guys doing the filming and editing are top-notch, but there is only so much you can do with a car that goes sideways.

We all appreciated the gorilla appearance as well as the Segway trick, but soon enough you'll run out of animals and alternative transportation devices to feature. It's time Ken Block did something new, and this Battle Broyale competition cooked up by Hoonigan has all the right ingredients.

For one thing, it isn't all about just the one car, one driver - I don't care how charmful your personality is, after nine videos, you risk becoming boring. Besides, conveying your personality from inside a car that's drifting can be pretty difficult. The Battle Broyale, however, features six drivers, split over two teams.

So there's going to be competitiveness as well. The format might have two teams, but much like the Highlander, there can be only one winner. So while we should see some team tactics, in the end, it'll come down to a free-for-all. Or so we think, at least, since the information is patchy at the moment.

The two teams are lead by no-need-for-an-introduction Ken Block and seven-time national off-road racing Champion Ballistic BJ Baldwin, with both of them getting to pick their team members in "schoolyard-style" before the actual confrontation.

Hoonigan has released two videos so far, and even though they don't have one minute of footage between them, we're excited, to say the least. The six drivers will be behind the wheels of six Can-Am Off-Road Mavericks, which means we'll be treated to plenty of pace. The venue hasn't been detailed, but expect a lot of dirt, a lot of dust clouds, and a lot of fun. Stay tuned on September 27.
