Ever since Teslas came about, the experience of owning a car changed dramatically. Probably for the first time since ever, being in possession of a car is fun well beyond horsepower and top speed. And that thanks to innovative thinking that brought thinks like Cuphead or Netflix right inside the vehicles. And sometime soon, the fun is about to get loud and funky.
Over the weekend, Elon Musk revealed on his favorite communications channel that “customized horn & movement sounds (coconuts being one, of course) coming to Teslas soon.” That means in the near future, people will have the chance to change the sound of the horn or the low-speed noise.
For the moment, there’s no indication what these sounds will be all about, except for the coconut one (the Internet has quickly linked it to Monty Python and the Holy Grail), and the earlier rumors of whoopie cushion and even goat sounds. And possibly even farts.
That’s right. Back in February Tesla hid in the cars' Easter Egg menu a feature called Emissions Testing Mode that made seven types of fart sounds, so it’s not unfathomable we’ll get to hear Teslas pass by and fart as they do.
Elon Musk did not explicitly say farts will be included in the suite of sounds for the horn, but in reply to a post by Teslarati titled “Tesla owners will be able to honk with fart and goat sounds,” Musk said “and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.”
Also, there’s speculation Tesla is considering the possibility of adding an upload feature to the system, which is giving owners the chance to choose and upload whatever sound they like for their horns. This idea though raises some issues on copyright, not to mention decent language.
We’ll probably hear more – literally – on Musk's latest crazy idea in the coming weeks, so keep your ears to the ground.
