One more small-displacement bike name has been reportedly registered as a trademark, but this time it’s Honda and the CB300F, in Europe. Sources mention that the CB300F has been registered with the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM), the European Union trademark and designs office.
Save for the sketches after the jump, no info on the bike is currently available. Even though manufacturers often try to protect their new products by registering various trademarks for their names, this action is never to be taken as 100% warranty for the coming to fruition of a specific motorcycle.
Still, we have reasons to believe that Honda is thinking about the smartest move in the small-displacement segment, especially as the expected CBR300R has been delayed with no official reasons and nobody seems to know too much about the fate of the bike, save for Honda itself. Honda might even be pondering between the 250cc and the 286cc engines, rumor has it.
As far as these photos show, the bike is a single-cylinder machine, and this might hint us on Honda planning to use the old thumper from the phasing out CBR250R machine. Of course, there is the presumed stroked-out 286cc which was supposed to power the CBR300R… in case Honda actually built it.
Either way, it looks like the Japanese manufacturer plans to offer at least a faired and a naked or semi-faired version for pretty much any displacement niche. At this moment it’s rather hard to tell which bike will be sold where, and we might even see Honda building both and sending them to different markets. And that would be a good thing, as it will only bring more competition to the segment, forcing manufacturers to build better bikes for more affordable prices. This means a win-win situation for the customers too, as judging by who buys these bikes, they’re not exactly filthy rich.
