The moment every VTEC fan has been waiting for is here. The very first model of a new generation Civic Type R just rolled off the assembly line in Swindon, and it's a beast.
Honda's first-ever turbocharged 2-liter VTEC engine is at the heart of this machine, delivering 310 PS for a 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) time of only 5.7 seconds.

Swindon has always been the hub of Civic hatchback production, but there hasn't been a Type R made there for quite a few years. And while the old car was constantly ridiculed, the 2015 model is the fastest FWD model ever to lap the Nurburgring (time of 7m 50s).

“The new Civic Type R is an imperative model for Honda, representing our racing spirit and demonstrating our commitment to innovation and passion. We are extremely proud to be the only manufacturer of the Civic Type R in the world. Our high standards have earned us this privilege and this is testament to the continued commitment of our Associates," said Soichiro Takizawa, Managing Director at Honda UK Manufacturing.

Even though it's faster than the original NSX supercar, this hot hatch will not have an easy job. The highly competitive performance market just witnessed the launch of the all-wheel drive Ford Focus RS and the Megane RS 275 Trophy R.

The one major advantage this Swindon creation has over its rivals is price, with the entry-level model costing a shade under at £29,995 on the road. For an additional £2,300, the driver will benefit from front and rear parking sensors, dusk sensing headlamps, rain-sensing automatic wipers and electric fold door mirrors. Integrated Garmin satellite navigation with five years of free map updates is
also included.

What about the States?

Honda has officially confirmed it will export the Civic hatchback to North America. With a bit of luck, the crazy cousin will make it across the pond as well!

Already, the 2-liter turbo engine has been marked for use in several Honda cars, so VTEC Turbo is about to kick in yo!
