Everybody knows the inauguration of Honda's R&D facility in Silicon Valley has brought us the 2016 Accord, but surely that brainstorming base must be working on something more enticing than that, right?
Well of course Honda engineers are preparing a spicier proposal for us! In fact, you can see this in the image above and we're not referring to the gadget. The photo, which comes from Honda's Twitter account, shows something that can barely be called an Easter Egg.
We're talking about the sportscar on the left, which is the expected "smaller NSX" machine. The styling cues seen here appear to coincide with the details we've seen in the patent drawings leaked last month - you can find these in the gallery below.
The CAD illustrations showed a model that would be slotted in between the NSX supercar revealed back in January at Detroit and the S660 lilliputian that won't make it to the US.
The details are scarce for the moment, as this is a prototype Honda hasn't even confirmed yet. Sure, we have a scale that starts with the 63 hp S660 and ends with the 550 hp NSX, but, as we said, we're not sure where the future sportscar stops, if it ever gets the production green light. Remember, there's nothing in the tweet about it.
While many have rushed to label it under "S2000 replacement", you can hardly call it that. While it does seem like the top will be removable, the philosophy of the car is pretty different. For one thing, the powertrain is expected to follow the current hybrid trends.
It's obvious that Honda is testing the waters and we'll return to the topic as soon as we get our hands on more details.
