Normally, the car looks like a baby NSX with a bit of Honda Civic added for good measure. But after showing a retro concept about two years ago at the Tokyo Motor Show, people started asking where they could buy one. Eventually, the company relented and offered this, the S660 Neo Classic KIT.

It will launch on September 21 and be offered only in three select stores. The kit costs 1,296,000 yen, which is equivalent to $11,700, and from our understanding, that doesn't include the car.

The kit consists of several unpainted FRP exterior elements that have been designed to work with the factory mounting points. The little diagram they provided shows how every primary body panel except the roof and doors has been changed.

At the front, the sharp headlights are replaced with cute round ones that look like they came out of the 60's. A new hood and bumper make it more rounded. Unfortunately, the rear is a less successful transformation, partly because retro cars don't usually have buttresses, but also because the taillights look cheap. A quick look at some videos from 2016 revealed the Neo Classic is missing some retro wheels and mirrors as well.

The S660 starts at 1,980,000 yen or roughly $16,500. From what we understand, about 80% of buyers are over the age of 40, so maybe this is a hobby kit for them to install during their spare time.

Like all kei cars, this one uses a 3-cylinder DOHC 0.66-liter turbo mill that produces 64 horsepower. Honda says it's fun to rev all the way up to the 7,700 mark. Also, a maximum torque of 104 Nm is available from 2,600 rpm. This is delivered to the rear axle through either a 6-speed manual transmission or an optional CVT that's been designed to simulate gear changes.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
