When Honda announced the 2014 Accord Hybrid it did so saying the sedan would have a fuel efficiency rating of 49/45/47 mpg (city/highway/combined). That was already class-leading, but today as the first examples rolled off the assembly line in Marysville, Ohio.
The automaker says EPA fuel economy is actually 1 better at 50 mpg city. Of course, you'll have to be really careful with the throttle, but even then, this is a high mpg number for any car, especially a mid-size.
"Even before it hits showrooms this fall, the Accord Hybrid is already surpassing the competition and claiming segment leadership," said Mike Accavitti, senior vice president of auto operations at American Honda. "For customers looking for a 50 mpg rated 4-door sedan, there is no other choice than the 2014 Accord Hybrid."
Powered by Honda's new two-motor hybrid powertrain, the 2014 Accord Hybrid has three drive modes: EV Drive, Hybrid Drive and Engine Drive. Combining a 124 kW electric motor and the 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder, the car should also have plenty of power when you actually need it.
In addition, it can travel for up to 6733 miles on a single tank of fuel, 46 more than any mid-size sedan.
The 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid is the first Honda hybrid vehicle produced in Ohio. Honda has invested $18.8 million in a 94,000-square-foot expansion to the Ohio factory.
