Honda has published its 2016 Super Bowl ad on its official YouTube account, and we love it.
The Japanese carmaker has decided to promote its 2017 Ridgeline pickup truck in its latest commercial. The video that will be broadcasted during the big game is directed by Bryan Buckley, creator of over 40 Super Bowl ads. We must admit, Mr. Buckley knows what he is doing, as this video made us laugh, and that is an impressive achievement.
This spot marks Honda’s return to the Super Bowl, which comes along with the Ridgeline’s return to the market.
The 60-second commercial features music by legendary band Queen, and everyone knows that half of the work in a video is done if you have the right music. In this case, the classic Queen song “Somebody to Love” does the trick. Naturally, the commercial would be lame if they only played music with no action, so the script involved a herd of sheep that can sing like you would not believe. If all sheep sang this well, we’d become part-time shepherds.
The spot is called “A New Truck to Love” and focuses on the unique feature of the 2017 Honda Ridgeline, its integrated in-bed audio system. This feature is a segment first, and the pickup truck’s bed also features a dual-action tailgate. Naturally, both are featured in the commercial.
The 2017 Honda Ridgeline was publicly unveiled at this year’s Detroit Auto Show. The pickup truck was developed by Honda’s North American design and engineering teams in Ohio and California. Honda will build the Ridgeline at its Lincoln, Alabama, auto and engine plant, alongside its Pilot and Odyssey models.
The 2017 Ridgeline is the second-generation pickup truck made by the Japanese brand. Its predecessor was named 2006 North American Truck of the Year and topped JD Power’s Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout study in its segment for three consecutive years.
