Honda Recalls 2006-2007 Civic Hybrid in the US

Japanese manufacturer Honda issued a statement today announcing it had identified a problem with some of its models from the US, and is therefore prompting the recall of some 36,656 Civic Hybrid vehicles manufactured as part of the 2006 and 2007 model year.

According to Honda, the problem that prompted the recall is related to a component of the Integrated Motor Assist hybrid control system that is fitted in the respective vehicles.

Specifically, we are talking here about the DC-to-DC converter that could fail to work properly and therefore could lead to engine stalling and malfunction of vehicle headlights. So far, Honda says there have been no related incidents reported.

Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by the manufacturer starting March18, and told to take their cars to the dealers for proper inspection and repairs, if needed. All repairs will be conducted free of charge for the consumers.

“American Honda Motor Co., Inc., will recall 36,656 Civic Hybrid vehicles from model years 2006 through 2007 in the U.S. to replace the DC-to-DC converter, a component of the Integrated Motor Assist hybrid control system. The DC-to-DC converter may experience an internal failure that could lead to engine stalling and malfunction of vehicle headlights,” a company statement reads.

“When Honda identifies concerns of this nature, nothing is more important to the company than fulfilling our obligation and responsibility to alert our customers. To this end in addition to contacting customers by mail, after March 18, owners of these vehicles will be able to determine if their vehicle requires repair by going on-line or calling,” Honda says.
