Honda officially announced Android Auto integration for the Gold Wing series earlier this year, and the company promised similar capabilities would be released at some point in the future for more models.
But since then, the Japanese maker has remained completely tight-lipped on the work in this regard, so its customers have now petitioned the company for the Android Auto update on the Africa Twin.
“We know, you have never communicated/engaged with your consumers ever on any platform and never had that appetite to answer to them but we would like to know if you have any progress on Android Auto update for Africa Twin,” the petition that has already been signed by some 200 Africa Twin owners reads.
“Goldwing community enjoying their Android Auto experience since July. Is there any update plan for Africa Twin? If yes, when? If not, what is the reason behind it?”
Needless to say, Honda hasn’t offered an answer to this petition, but worth knowing is the company hasn’t actually shared an ETA as to when the Android Auto update would be released for the Africa Twin. The Japanese firm only said that “Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration [are] coming to more models,” without releasing any specifics as to when it is projected to happen.
As far as the Gold Wing series is concerned, the 2018 models and newer all received the Android Auto update in mid-June.
While all phones running Android 6.0 and newer can run Android Auto, a device that has already been updated to Android 11 also supports the wireless mode. Previously, Android Auto wireless required a Samsung flagship or a Google Pixel, but Google had removed this limitation when it shipped Android 11, essentially unlocking these capabilities for all devices running its latest OS version.
On the Honda Gold Wing, a Bluetooth headset is also required to interact with Android Auto while riding, and this is obviously sold separately.
