Honda Leaks Production New Mid Scooter Images

Ever since the Japanese manufacturer showed its bike-meets-scooter concept at last year’s EICMA show in Milan, we knew the possibilities for it to turn production reality are extremely high. Following a design patent revealed back in January, the company has recently leaked two images that aim to trademark the vehicle’s shape.

This gives us hope that a production version based on the New Mid concept scooter is likely to show its face at the upcoming EICMA event.

However, Honda is tight-lipped for now, so we’ll have to hold our enthusiasm for later. After all, the motorcycle manufacturer has disappointed us before (think of the 2003 Griffon and the 2011 Elysium flat-four-engined sports-scooters).

The two images reveal a machine that has lost its paintwork and all those chrome accessories it was wearing last year, when it was just a concept form, and has grown into a more toned-down style.

The maxi scooter is expected to use a parallel-twin engine with a displacement somewhere between 600cc and 750cc. However, what we really want to see is whether the production version will use the dual-clutch gearbox similar to that on the VFR1200F, like the concept did.

Other similarities to the concept that could go into the production form include the front fairing air vents and those 17 inch wheels with PRO-LINK rear suspension with radial tires.

Let’s just hope that Honda will finally indulge us by launching the large-engined scooter with sportsbike-style running gear it has been deceiving us for so long now.
