Honda HSV-010 Threesome at Suzuka

When the Honda HSV-010 GT was unveiled in late 2009, we were left breathless. So were we after we saw these images, shot during the 2010 SuperGT season opener in Suzuka this weekend, but for another reason entirely.

Three of the cars, the No. 32 Epson HSV-010, the No. 8 ARTA HSV-010 and No. 18 Weider Honda tried to brake a basic law of physics – two objects cannot occupy the same space at the same time – and made a sandwich-type contact during lap 11 of the race.

As a result, the No. 8 and 18 were sent spinning into the tire wall. The No. 32 Epson HSV-010, initially caught in between the two other cars, managed to escape severe damage. Not the same can be said about other two cars, who sustained severe damages. None of the drivers were hurt.

The HSV (Honda Sports Velocity) is the replacement for the Honda NSX. It was specifically built to take on established competitors like the Nissan GT-R, as Honda plans to take the series with the new vehicle.

Below are the specifications of the HSV-010 GT:
  • Vehicle weight (kg): 1,100 or more
  • Configuration: Liquid-cooled, naturally aspirated, longitudinal V8
  • Displacement (cm3): 3,397
  • Maximum output: 500 or more
  • Maximum torque(Nm): 392 or more
  • Transmission mechanism: Constant mesh
  • Transmission shifting method: Steering paddle shifter
  • Steering system mechanism: Rack and pinion system with electric power steering (EPS)
  • Tyres: Front 330/40R18, Rear 330/45R17
  • Brake type and mechanism: Hydraulic ventilated disc system
  • Stabilizer: Torsion bar
