Honda’s UK branch ran a most enthralling contest aimed at determining the race livery of the Fireblade machine which would debut at Brands Hatch in mid-October, 2014. Honda fans could choose their favorite graphic scheme from a total of 8 different designs submitted by a group of artists and which had already received Honda’s approval as finalists.
To make things even cooler, the selected 8 finalists were in a way tribute bikes, attributed to famous names in the motorcycle racing world, such as James Toseland, Ron and Leon Haslam, Dave Thorpe and others. One of the bikes wore an MCN (Motorcyclenews magazine) newspaper cut livery which looked quite fashionable, but which only scored fewest points in the final showdown.
The winning Fireblade was the Blue Lightning and was created by Isle of Man-native Conor Cummins, a rider starring in the TT3D Closer to the Edge movie and 9-time IOM TT competitor, who apparently can also draw nifty bike livery designs. Second most-voted livery design was Matt Neal’s “Jaws”, followed by Jason O’Halloran’s FS3, a bike inspired by Freddie Spencer’s 1983 World Championship winning NS500 machine.
Conor Cummins’ Blue Lightning design will be made for real and attendants of the British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch will be able to see it in person, 17-19 October. VIP tickets for the BSB round and multiple other Honda and Motorcycle Live-themed prizes have also been offered. If you were to choose your favorite Honda Fireblade design form the choices below, which one would it be? The FS3 stole my heart, but the Thorpedo was very close, too.
