Honda Driving Simulator Goes on Sale

The revised version of Honda’s automobile driving simulator just went on sale in Japan, designed to allow users to experience and learn from potentially dangerous driving situations in a safe virtual environment. Honda has developed the simulator as an educational device to help develop drivers’ ability on the roads and improve road safety.

“The new model includes a number of features to help users better develop their driving skills, including easy to understand graphics and descriptions of dangerous situations, and advice on how to drive more safely in real life conditions,” a company statement reads.

The unit features an easy to use touch panel monitor and a high-definition 42-inch LCD display to offer a realistic driving experience. Additional features include night, fog and highway options as standard, an automatic results display and a more affordable axis motion base type.

Since it was first introduced in 2001, Honda has sold approximately 200 units of the automobile
driving simulator. Honda also develops and sells motorcycle, bicycle and PC-based automobile driving simulators.

‘Honda Safety Navi’, an educational software that shares the purposes of the driving simulator is also on sale in Japan since May 2009. This software contains two programmes, ‘Eco Drive’ and ‘SD Coacher’.

The first one allows users to understand fuel-efficient driving techniques and also to learn the key points of eco-driving. It measures the level of eco-driving and diagnoses the user’s level based on graphs which show his acceleration and fuel-efficiency patterns. The programme then provides instructions to improve the driver's behavior.

The SD Coacher teaches the user basic driving skills, while taking a quiz about traffic laws and regulations. Safe driving on both urban roads and highway, as well as during snow, rain and night driving are included in the programme.
