It's a common conception that Toyota is the biggest Automaker in Japan. They've had the best selling car there, the Prius, for two and a half years now, so we take small companies for granted, especially since Toyota is the biggest foreign maker in America and the global leader by numbers.
But Honda is starting to offset the establishment and for the second consecutive month has the best selling model in the country. Data recently released by the county's automotive dealers association shows the brand new Fit sold 23,281 units in October, an increase over 250% over last year.
This brand new model is yet to be launched in America or Europe, but thanks to new technology it outpaced the Prius, which only sold 20,886 and the Aqua (Prius c in US) with 19,984. Of course, with 5 cars in the top 10, Toyota is selling more cars overall.
Honda is also dominating in the light kei car segment, where the N Box sold 17,600, 97% more than last year, ahead of the Suzuki Spacia and Two Daihatsu models, the Mira and Move.
