Honda CR-Z Gets K20 Engine

The Honda CR-Z is a vehicle with a lot of potential. The Japanese automotive producer knows this and likes to play marketing games with the vehicles, so this is why the company also fitted the car with an electric motor. However, automotive enthusiasts from around the world would like to see the CR-Z stripped of the IMA (integrated motor assist).

So, it’s only natural that some aftermarket developer had to do the dirty work for us. We are talking about the American LHT Performance company, which has put the vehicle’s electric propulsion parts to sleep and swapped the car’s engine with a Honda K20 powerplant.

The tuner claims that this is the first K-Series CR-Z engine swap that comes with fully functioning vehicle systems. In other words, the power steering, cruise control, air conditioning, stability control and anti-lock brake system are all functional.

The tuner is offering us a video that shows the goodie under the hood, bur doesn’t reveal what the car is capable of on the road.

We have to remind you that earlier this month, the Internet was flooded by rumors indicating that Honda is working on a gasoline-only version of the CR-Z. Honda is reportedly considering using a turbocharged 1.6 liter gasoline engine that would come in two power levels. The entry-level incarnation of the unit would develop 160 hp, while the truly interesting version should come with a Type R badge-worthy output of 200 hp. The company is still evaluating the possibility to build the gasoline CR-Z.
