Honda Confirms the CB300F Semi-Naked Small-Displacement Motorcycle

Prying eyes which see behind the walls of the California Air Resources Board have spotted the CB300F on a list Honda filed to the environmental protection agency for sanctioning. This means that the rumors we got in mid-March of Honda filing for trademarks and similar intellectual property rights in Europe were true. Even more, it also means that the new small-displacement bike will also become available in the North American markets to expand the battle with the older Kawasaki Ninja 300 and its probable new companion, the Z300.
At the same time, Honda’s move is clearly aimed at curbing the allure of the KTM 390 Duke, even though the small Duke has no solid foothold in markets outside India, but has a potential which should never be neglected. Triumph is also readying its quarter-liter machines and Yamaha has just revealed its R25 bike, as well, making the small-displacement scene a really competitive place.

The Honda CB300F will use the CBR300R platform, with the same stroked-out single-cylinder engine of the former CBR250R, now packing 286cc and being capable of producing 31 horsepower at 8,500 rpm, and a max torque of 26Nm (19 lb-ft) at 7,250 revs and will most likely be a tad lighter than the sporty version, and therefore more fun.

Taking a look at the leaked sketches, the CB300F looks pretty similar to its CBR sibling, with the side fairings replaced by aggressive panels in the upper area and with a new front cowl for the single-headlight cluster. The foot pegs seem to be in the same position like those of the CBR model and in case the final production version is anything like that in the sketches, then the new, taller handlebar might provide riders with a more comfortable, upright position.

No word on the official unveiling date, but we could almost bet that the new Honda CB300F will show up at the Intermot in Cologne or at the EICMA in Milan this fall.
