Honda’s 2012 Civic is probably the mainstream car that received the most criticism from US consumers and the auto media last year. What’s more, Honda was hit hard by supply problems and a strong yen, so 2011 wasn’t what you’d call a good year for them.
But the company is bouncing back his year, and the Civic is still a car they can depend on. In the first two months of 2012, Civic sales increased 45 percent to 48,970 units, according to Bloomberg News.
“When competitors shoot at the Civic, we’ll have enough ammunition to shoot back,” said Tetsuo Iwamura, chief operating officer for North America. “We don’t talk about No. 1 as a goal. Always we think about having very good acceptance and high customer satisfaction.”
The cards Honda is likely to play all year long are the gas-efficient engines and the relative safety of the 2012 Civic for its segment. A revised version will be shown this year, correcting many of the issues people have with the car right now.
