Has there ever been a Civic Type R at the SEMA Show? Probably, but nothing like this one, a hot hatch with three exhaust pipes (one is red) and over 300 horsepower stock... sort of.
So while Acura only has a trailer to show the Vegas crowd, Honda is going all-out with a display it calls "Civicpalooza." The star is going to be the Type R that's making its North American debut, although that probably means the pre-production prototype is coming, not the real deal.
The global debut took place in Paris last month, but the US crowd has yet to see this extreme relative of its Type S. As you can see, the prototype features a dark brushed aluminum effect finish. All the chrome pieces and the wheels have been painted gloss black, bringing out even more aggression. The only spot of color is the red on the Honda badges and the Brembo brake calipers.
The list of eye-candy features is pretty long and includes air scoops and ducts, smoked LED headlights, indicators and side indicator repeater lights, carbon side skirts and, of course, that large wing next to the Ferrari-like triple exhaust. It's not hard to get excited about what will soon be the fastest front-wheel drive vehicle in the world. And the best part is that Honda concepts are 99% faithful to the production model.
You can't make a stand with just one car, now can you? That's why Honda is also bringing along the all-new 2017 Ridgeline pickup truck fitted with the necessary "genuine accessories" to carry a quad... or a dirt bike... or anything else you like.
2016 Honda Civic Coupe GRC race car is coming along as well, bringing along all 600 of its horsepower, tuned to deliver a 0-60 mph time of 1.9 seconds. It will be joined by the 2017 Civic Coupe Racing Concept, fitted with an FIA specification safety cage. To top things off, some tuners are bringing their own versions of both the Civic X (sedan and coupe) and the Ridgeline. Check them all out in the photo gallery below.
