With the introduction of the new Accord, Honda will also kick off production of an all-new range of engines, called ‘Earth Dreams’. The range consists of two all-new engines, one 2.4-liter four-cylinder and a 3.5-liter V6, as well as two new transmissions - a CVT and a six-speed automatic.
These engines reportedly have 10% greater fuel economy, when compared to current generation versions, and Honda has invested an impressive $220- (€177-) million in order to produce as many as 1.8-million engines per year. However, the Accord will only be the first to benefit from these new engines, as they will slowly trickle down the range into more Honda and Acura models over the coming years.
This expansion of production will also bring with it an additional 150 jobs, at the Honda Transmission Mf. of American and the Anna Engine Plant. According to Plant Manager Gary Hand, "Our continuing investments in Ohio illustrate how we intend to meet the needs of our global customers by implementing advanced technologies in our production operations and in our products [. . .] Our associates are looking forward to delivering best quality as we launch these new CVTs and six-speed automatic transmissions."
