Honda Announces 2011 Civic Recall

Japanese auto maker Honda announced today it would begin recalling a total of 18,056 Civic vehicles from the model year 2011 after having discovered a problem with the fuel pump. This is the second recall announced this month that involves the Civic nameplate.

According to Honda, the problem has been identified in the fuel pump module inside the gasoline tank. During the assembly of the fuel tank, Honda discovered several damaged roll-over valve and now plans to replace them.

In a worst-case scenario, in case of a crash that results in roll over, the cracked roll-over valve may allow fuel leakage from the gasoline tank into the evaporative emissions canister. This, in turn, might lead to a fire.

So far, the Japanese company is saying that it has no information about any incidents that resulted in fuel leakage, nor does it have any information about people experiencing problems with their vehicles.

Even so, the recall is being made, and Honda is advising all owners of affected vehicles to take their vehicles to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification (word to the owners will be sent sometime in the middle of next month).

The solution chosen by Honda to fix the problem is to replace the fuel pumps all together. The repairs will be made, as usual in recall cases, free of charge for the owners of the affected vehicles. A full list of the vehicles in this situation, as well as additional information about the problem, can be found at the following link.
