Honda and Top Gear Team Up for Record-Breaking... Lawnmower

Building motorcycles since the 1950s and automobiles since the 1960, Japanese manufacturer Honda is also known for its Power Equipment division, which develops and sells almost anything from snowblowers and hedgetrimmers to pumps and household cogeneration units.

In fact, their lawnmowers are likely to be more popular than the cars and you shouldn’t be surprised if your neighbor starts bragging about his latest “luxury” Honda grass cutter, that, by the way, comes with a cup holder.

That being said, would you still be amazed if we told you Honda wants to set a new record for the world’s fastest lawnmower? Yes, one such record is already standing and it belongs to Bobby Cleveland who reached 96.529 mph (155.35 km/h) at Bonneville Salt Flats in 2010.

The Japanese company wants to improve on that number using one of its HF2620 lawnmowers and a little help from Top Gear. The machine that gained a go-kart back axle, new wheels, quad tires and a 1,000cc engine from a Honda motorcycle, is said to be able to reach 60 mph (96 km/h) in just four seconds and a top speed of 130 mph (209 km/h).

While the record attempt is still a few weeks off, we can’t help notice that the lawnmower packs 110 bhp, which makes it more powerful than a lot of respectable road cars.
