Honda Accord Type-S with 180 HP Diesel Waits for Geneva

Beside several other goodies prepared by the Japanese automaker, the 2009 Geneva Motor Show will also witness the debut of the sporty Honda Accord Type-S which is now equipped with a more powerful engine: a so-called derivative version of Honda's 2.2-liter i-DTEC turbo diesel that now produces 180 horsepower, thanks to a revised turbo-charger, cylinder head and larger intercooler . The initial output of the engine was 150 horsepower. The car manufacturer improved the torque as well, with current rating reaching 380 Nm at 2000 rpm, compared to 350 Nm on the base engine unit.

And because a sporty version of the car wouldn't be sporty if it doesn't look so, Honda also prepared a bunch of slight modifications, including new lower bumper sections, front chin spoiler, still extensions and smokoe chrome finished grille. The Type-S will also boast 18-inch alloy wheels for improved handling and enhanced stability at higher speeds. There are two different colors, Premium White Pearl and Basque Red, according to Carscoop.

"The 180PS diesel model will be a welcome addition to the Accord range, especially for company car drivers that want a high-specification car in an even sportier package," said Graham Avent, Manager – Corporate Operations, Honda UK. "This model will undoubtedly appeal to high-performance diesel enthusiasts, looking for that something extra, but we hope it will also create a halo-effect across the diesel Accord range."

Beside the aforementioned specifications, the newly-designed engine is also aimed at fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, two main attributes for today's engines, as Honda explained. However, no figures are yet available as “performance, fuel economy and emissions data will be available once homologation is completed,” according to a press statement issued by the Japanese manufacturer.
