Honda Accord SR-9 Photos Launched

Beside so many concept and production-ready vehicles, the 2009 Shanghai Auto Show also brought the first photos showing the Honda Accord SR-9, a model designed in collaboration with the Chinese joint venture, Guangzhou Honda, as the folks over at Carscoop reported.

Details are obviously fairly sketchy at this point but, as you can for yourselves in the adjacent photos, the car comes with a redesigned front bumper, reshaped grille and larger air intakes, when compared to the existing Honda Accord models.

There's no word on the engine configurations to be included within the range, while equipment levels, power outputs and all the other details are kept secret as well.

Just as we told you yesterday, the car is expected to enter production in the second half of 2009, together with a couple of other models prepared by Honda for the Chinese market.

And since we were talking about the other goodies addressed to this particular region, Honda also displayed at Shanghai the upgraded Civic Hybrid, a model which is reportedly capable of achieving a fuel consumption rating of 50 mpg (4.7 l/100 km), which means the hybrid is 37.42 percent better than the Civic Exi AT. The Civic Hybrid is projected to go on sale in both Chinese and overseas markets in June.

Meanwhile, Honda is struggling to meet the expectations in the green car sector with the help of Insight, the hybrid model which is often referred to as the most powerful competitor for Toyota's Prius. At the same time, Honda's very own model is regarded as a cheaper alternative to the Prius, with the most affordable Insight priced at $19,800 in the United States.

"The all-new Honda Insight brings the cost of entry for hybrid technology within closer reach of an entirely new car-shopping audience. In addition to making good environmental sense, hybrid technology is now entering a new era where it can also make financial sense for a broader range of customers," Dick Colliver, American Honda vice president said.
