After seeing the Bosnian mechanic who built his own F1 car recently, we introduce you another homebuilt replica. This one looks a lot better though.
Unlike the Bosnian road-legal F1 car that was not too convincing, Kevin Thomas from East Sussex, Brighton UK, built a true replica of a BAR-Honda Formula One racing car.
The enthusiast has no engineering skills at all and the whole thing was built in his home garage. As you may imagine, the big struggle was to find original parts. He checked on eBay daily and also collaborated with a community of F1 parts collectors, spending about £8,000 (€9,500 / $12,416). He also taught himself how to work with carbon fiber so he could build some parts from scratch.
Having most of the car complete, all Kevin needs is an engine and a drivetrain. He thinking of fitting the car with a Formula Renault 3.5-liter engine as it is more likely to find one instead of a 600 + hp Formula 1 engine. Another reason for going with a smaller one is that he thinks the whole structure won’t manage to stand up to that amount of power... its barn build after all.
