Holden Volt Ready for Australian Market

Australia is one of the most developed countries in the world, and so, it’s only natural that Australians are willing (and able) to be at the forefront of the EV trend and pay a premium at the same time (other countries give you money back, but in Aussie, they take more of it from you - odd). The Nissan Leaf is already on sale in the country, and despite its huge purchase price $51,500 AUD ($52,525), it has still sparked up considerable interest.

The next ‘green’ offering to go on sale in Aussie is the Chevrolet Holden Volt, which, in the same manner as the Leaf, will cost considerably more than anywhere else in the world. While official numbers have yet to be released, it is expected to surpass the Leaf, and retail for around $60,000 AUD ($61,150).

The Volt will be the third ‘green’ car to go on sale in Australia, after the Mitsubishi iMiEV (priced at $48,000 AUD) and the recently launched Leaf. However, it may have an edge over the two other cars, in the form of its range extender engine which will make it much more practical and useful for covering the vast distances that people in Australia often need to cover - distances which would render both the Leaf and Mitsubishi useless.

It may even force some Ford fans to give up their rivalry with Holden, and make the leap to actually buying one, as Ford does not offer any ‘green’ cars in its Australian lineup.
