Holden Ute Achieves 5-Star Safety Rating in Australia

Holden Ute is the first utility vehicle in Australia that achieved a maximum five star rating from Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) or the Euro New Car Assessment Program (EuroNCAP). The car is offered with a wide array of safety features, including side impact airbags, curtain airbags and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) which incorporates Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Electronic Brake Assist (EBA) and Traction Control System (TCS).

“Exceptional safety has always been our priority,” Holden Vehicle Structure & Safety Integration Manager, Steve Curtis, said in a statement for the press.

“Ensuring Ute met the same high standard as the rest of the VE range has been a real focus. Our efforts have produced the only light commercial vehicle in Australia to offer 5-star safety as standard across the range. This endorsement from ANCAP is a very clear indication that we are on the right path of continual improvement.”

Holden's Ute is powered by a 3.6-liter V6 engine that develops 261 horsepower and 330 Nm of torque while the SS and the SS V versions are featuring a 6.0-liter V8 powertrain producing 362 horsepower and 530 Nm of torque. Quad exhausts add to the performance package on SS and SS V models.

"Holden believes that occupant safety is just as important in the LCV market as it is in the family sedan market,"
GM Holden Director of Safety and Integration, Ian Butler, said. "Safety features are not something that should be limited to vehicle types or models and should be standard on all our vehicles, including those in the light commercial market."
