Hohenester Audi A4 Sets New World Record for Fastest Biogas Car

Audi made history once again as a customized A4 especially converted to run on biogas managed to set a new world record for the fastest car powered by this type of fuel. The car was driven by Jurgen Hohenester, a German race driver and tuner who took the car to the Papenburg race track in Lower Saxony, Germany. The compress gas powered A4 reach a whopping speed of 226.55 mph (364.6 km/h) which translates into a 20 km/h better time compared to the initial record holder, Bugatti.

The car was powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 powerplant that developed an electronically-limited maximum power of 700 hp, with the tuner claiming that a better performance could be achieved if
the restriction is lifted.

And speaking of a better time, Hohenester has new optimistic plans, with the "the next target now the overall victory at the Tuner Grand Prix in Hockenheim".

"The world record with the Audi will be the theme for Earth and biogas awareness and show that biogas is a real alternative to fossil fuels," said Dr. Behrning by TUV Rheinland.

Separately, the stock Audi A4 is being offered with a choice of six engines, ranging between 1.8- and 3.2-liter. The top of the range version is the 3.2-liter FSI that develops 265 horsepower at 6500 rpm and 243.4 lb-ft of torque between 3000 and 5000 rpm. As for the performance figures, this engine configuration helps the car accelerate from naught to sixty in 6.2 seconds, with maximum speed electronically-limited at 155.3 mph (250 km/h).
