Hispania Secures Deal with Former Telefonica CEO

Hispania Racing F1 Team made another strong stance regarding its plans for the 2011 season of Formula One. In an effort to improve the financial status of his team for the upcoming campaign, team owner Jose Ramon Carabante has joined efforts with businessman Juan Villalonga.

For those of you who don’t know who Villalonga is, the 57-year old is the former CEO of Spanish telecommunications firm Telefonica Telefonica. During the 4 years he occupied this position within the aforementioned company (1996-2000), he brought it into F1 as sponsor of the former Minardi F1 Team.

Before associating with Carabante at the helm of his F1 team, Villalonga was a business adviser for companies worldwide, helping them to “identify new growth opportunities, increase revenues, and create cultures that encourage risk taking and develop value for the clients.

In fact, Villalonga himself admitted that his main priority from now on will be to find new sponsors to come on board and help HRT F1 on its way to greatness.

“Formula One is always associated with innovation, research and technology, and Hispania Racing must be represented on that level, with a stable leadership,” said the Spanish businessman. “The key is the quality and not the quantity of sponsors.”

Carabante welcomed his new partner in the series, admitting that securing a deal with one of the first 100 CEOs in the world – as named by the Harvard Business Review in 2010 – will provide his team with an immense boost.

We will substantially strengthen our ability to generate innovative activities in marketing and sponsorship with his incorporation. We will also be able to make the best of his leadership, knowledge and relationships in the fields of Technology and Communications, and therefore be able to fully exploit the opportunities we are given after this tough first year,” said Carabante.
