Cadillac doesn't have to make the CTS-V, but we are glad they took a crack at it the third time. With the engine from the Z06, it's like Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction, while the Germans continue to make performance sedans that go straight to DVD.
This week, Motor Trend's Head to Head compares the Cadillac CTS-V to the Lexus GS F. Not only do we get to learn a lot, but it's also entertaining in a way Top Gear hasn't been in a while. Don't treat the fun factor as if it's trivial - making over 20 minutes of funny car-related footage is nearly impossible.

Lieberman and his co-host aren't the first to make fun of the Lexus design language, but the way the GS F drives makes up for its cosmetic shortcomings. Yet under the space-age bug-eyed front end, the hot GS F might be an old fashioned kind of sports saloon in some respects.

You see, these are the only people crazy enough to offer a V8 engine without some sort of forced induction. So the GS F is great in the same way the old RS5 and M3 were great.

The question is, is this car any good and does it have any place in the modern era of performance saloons? Well, thanks to a mechanical differential, it does. However, the Cadillac CTS-V remains the winner of this comparison, even though none of the presents would buy one.

Before you watch the video, you need to have the output numbers. And don't skip through the part where Randy takes them both for a hot lap. I mean, on the straights, the Lexus is almost 10 mph slower. Not only does CTS-V have a supercharger, but the engine is bigger, a 6.2-liter with 640 horsepower and 630 lb-ft of torque. The GS F really didn't have any chance with its 467 hp and 389 lb-ft.
