The city of Sturgis, South Dakota, announces higher fees for the vendors attending the annual motorcycle rally. Even though the fees for this year has been raised with $50 (€38), and has now reached the $700 (€535) mark, the city manager claims next year will see a new system.

Daniel Ainslie, Sturgis city manager claims that the new system will be based on a flat fee for every vendor on every location, compensated by a per-square-foot fee.

With large vendors, the new system could lead to fees as large as $1,800 (€1,375) and we can vouch that not everybody will be happy with this. Even more, people who are close to the Sturgis rally, such as Bob Davis, owner of Sturgis Photo and Gift Shop and a former vendor claims that the vendor participation has become less consistent during the last 7 years, and he estimated a 25 percent decrease.

Other voices also claim that this fee could easily be the worst thing to have ever happened to the Sturgis rally. This year's event will take place August 5-11.
