Hey Kids, Wanna See a 850 HP Toyota Camry? It’s Here at SEMA

We showed you a lot of sleeper cars here at autoevolution, but nothing can really beat this Toyota Camry. With so many of them on the roads, someone had to eventually make a really powerful one and this one here is Camry that could easily beat a Dodge Viper and you can see it at the 2014 SEMA show.

In drag terms, a “sleeper” is a stock inoffensive looking car that hides a dirty secret under its skin, namely a monstrous engine waiting to “wake up” and bite the wheels off of the competition.

And this is exactly what this plain looking silver Camry is here. A stock shell sitting on an over 850 hp powerhouse built by Chuck Wade and the team at Motorsports Technical Center.

The guys took out the body of the new 2015 Toyota Camry and placed it over a custom-built tube frame chassis which was then gifted by a Tundra 5.7-liter V8 along with its transmission, rear axle and electronics.

Those 850+ hp were obtained using a TRD supercharger and a wet shot nitrous system. Using some rear DOT 335/30/18 drag racing tires, this Camzilla is expected to do a quarter-mile in 9.8 seconds.

It took the team about 11 weeks to finish the project and despite the short period of time, the attention to details has been kept at a high standard. For example, the front doors haven’t been welded shut and are still functional. We doubt it has AC though...

However, as much as we’d like to fool people on the streets with this beast here, we're pretty sure it’s nowhere near road legal.

UPDATE: we found a new walkaround video with the monster Camry. Notice how one single man can lift the whole body up to reveal the beast that's underneath. Also, you can see that all the doors are in fact functional and their electric windows are still in working order.
