We lost count how many times we mentioned the upcoming quarter-liter bike from Hero and said it was coming, and coming, and coming… and this is one more piece of news reporting on its delay. Honestly, we’d have loved to bring you better news, such as a killer price meant to upset the plans a lot of riders have made for their first bikes or anything like this.
Unfortunately, all the news we have form Hero and EBR only indicate that the bike will not make it in the dealerships this spring, even though after seeing it at EICMA 2014 we were almost positive that early 2015 would see the first units reaching the customers.

India might see the Hero HX250R in October

The latest news on the sporty small-displacement front see the HX250R reaching the dealerships in October this year. That is, the Indian dealerships. Whether Hero will have manufactured enough bikes and got all the EU and US bureaucracy sorted out until the end of the year, we might just see the bike making appearance in EBR and Hero showrooms in December or early 2016.

Hopefully Hero will speed things up, as the bike looked like we could ride it already in Milan, so we don’t know what’s holding it so long. The competition has already upped the game, jumping from the 250 to the 300cc class, and a machine with inferior specs is not exactly what young riders are after.

Hero plays it big on the price side

However, Hero says that the bike will be priced extremely aggressively to compensate for the delay and the inferior performance. The announced figures for the HX250R see it delivering around 31 horsepower and north of 19 lb-ft (25.8 Nm). Not exactly what it takes to give the Ninja 300, Yamaha R3 or KTM Duke or RC390 a ride for the money, but it might chew from Honda CBR300R’s cake.

Now, the price factor looks like one of the key selling points for the Hero HX250R. The bike’s Indian price is rumored to be in the $2,100-2,425 (€1,840-2,125) range, which is glorious, but we know this will never happen in Europe or the US. Still, if Hero wants to make it count, the price is probably the best weapon. We already know that EBR and Hero are on a price cutting spree, as EBR officially revealed in an exclusive interview.
