We could use the famous saying that no good deed remains unpunished here, but this is more than just that. Three months ago, this bus driver came across a burning building on his route. He stopped the bus and saved the person inside, getting injured during his act of bravery. Because of that, he couldn’t work overtime anymore and is now facing eviction.
Back in July, Metro bus driver Paul Nelson would make the national news headlines as the entire country would praise the man for his heroism. He kept saying it was not something special, that he did what anybody else would have done, what anybody should do.

Metro bus drivers are no first responders, but they are trained to immediately notify the Houston TranStar, where police, fire and transportation officials jointly manage roads and emergencies.

Drivers are trained to call in emergencies if they so happen to observe one. But Nelson did a lot more than just observe. He asked not one but three passengers if it was OK to stop the vehicle and try to help the person trapped in the burning house.

Huston fire officials later said the resident, who suffered burns on roughly 50 percent of his body, was expected to survive. Paul Nelson saved a life. Now, he needs a new one.

According to ABC13, because of his injuries, he missed out on working overtime for weeks. He is short on cash, and his wife and three children face eviction from their west Huston apartment. Nelson had problems get over his pride and asking for help, but he never lost faith. The man believes people will help eventually, and he says that no matter what happens, he has no regrets.

“I wouldn’t change a thing. If he’s alive and doing well, I did good,” Nelson told the source. Losing the apartment won’t be easy, but it’s still better than losing a life, he said.
