Here’s Where UFC Champ Conor McGregor Takes His Motivation From

The BMW i8 hybrid plug-in sportscar may be using a lot of carbon fiber, but that doesn’t mean it's as light as a feather. Sure, 27-year-old mixed martial artist Conor McGregor competes in the featherweight division, but that doesn’t make him so light either. What truly connects the man and the machine, in this case, is related to proper motivation.

The picture above is what the fighter sees whenever he's going for an early morning run. The fact that his fleet of cars was recently enriched with a brand new BMW i8 is clear proof that hard work pays off and that it is all worth it. It’s what the fighter quoted next to the image he posted on Instagram, and it sounds much like another fighter’s play some may have heard about.

For those who haven’t watched the sports news lately, it should be noted that Irishman McGregor will defend his UFC featherweight champion title in Las Vegas next month. As mentioned above, buying cars before big fights sounds much like the type of move another famous fighter does, and his name is Floyd Mayweather. Sure, the five-division boxing champ is now retired, but back in the day he’d always buy some exotic sportscar if not even a hypercar before a big bout, just to get proper motivation.

Funny fact is that, according to The Mirror, McGregor actually spoke about the American champ, saying he would kill him in less than 30 seconds.

“I don’t look at a man who’s an expert in one area as a specialist. I look at him as a rookie in ten other areas. If you can box, what happens if I grab hold of your legs? If you put me face-to-face with Floyd Mayweather - pound-for-pound boxing's best - if I fought Floyd, I would kill him in less than thirty seconds.”

Sure, teasing a fellow sportsman like that is rather common for these people, who often send out challenges. But with the new BMW i8, a question remains unanswered - is McGregor playing Mayweather’s car-shopping move?
