It hasn't been that long since MINI announced the return of an older special design for one of its cars, the Sidewalk. First introduced in 2007, the special trim is making a comeback as one of the carmaker’s factory-backed propositions for this highly customizable vehicle.
Priced from $38,400 (or above $40,000 if the optional 7-speed dual clutch transmission is specced) in the U.S., the Sidewalk comes in the form of a specially prepared exterior and interior visual enhancement for the current generation MINI Cooper S.
The car is scheduled to hit the market by the end of this month, and as that’s about to happen it has been taken this week on the Breite Straße in the German city of Bonn, where it was part of a photoshoot surrounded by the white and pink of cherry blossoms, as you can see in the gallery above.
“The new MINI Convertible Sidewalk is also a very special spring messenger,” said the carmaker in a statement.
“The edition model of this open-top four-seater is an open invitation to let down the soft top and capture the first rays of warm sunshine, turn your eyes skywards and admire the colourful splendour of the cherry blossom.”
Unique to this MINI model are several visual enhancements. On the outside, these changes include the use of one of two colors, either Deep Laguna Metallic or MINI Yours Enigmatic Black Metallic, both made in such a way as to go with matching 17-inch wheels, and a special anthracite Sidewalk roof.
At the interior the changes are far less extensive: there is a sports steering wheel in specially designed leather, and custom illumination.
There is no change under the hood, though, as the MINI Cooper S Convertible Sidewalk hides the same 4-cylinder engine as all the others in its range, delivering 189 hp and 207 lb-ft (280 Nm) of torque.
