Even though the title of the following video is “Genovation GXE breaks world speed record,” the e-Corvette specialists forgot to add “for street-legal electric cars.” Adding insult to injury, converting the C7 to all-electric propulsion is limited to 75 examples of the breed.
It’s a matter of time until Tesla wipes the floor with the GXE as development of the Roadster II goes on strong. The open-top electric sports car from Fremont, California promises a top speed of more than 250 miles per hour and an acceleration to 60 in 1.9 seconds while Genovation mustered 210.2 miles per hour and less than three seconds to 60.

Starting with an aluminum frame engineered and built in North America, the GXE boasts 800 horsepower and 718 pound-feet of torque from a twin-motor drivetrain. The near-perfect weight distribution is another highlight, but the 60-kWh battery is not enough by modern standards.

Genovation quotes about 130 miles of range, and as opposed to most other EVs out there, the GXE can be had with either the seven-speed manual of the C7 or a dual-clutch transmission with eight forward gears. The company hushed about a starting price of $750,000 per unit, a lot of greenback when compared to a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ at $517,770.

Heck, even the Tesla Roadster II Founders Series is $250,000 before options, a third of the price Genovation wants for a ‘Vette that doesn’t feature the burble of a small-block V8. While there’s no denying a few Corvette superfans will dish out this kind of money on the GXE, we’re can’t see Genovation selling more than a few dozen at this ludicrous price.

Another company, Zelectric Motors, offers an EV conversion package for the 1973 Porsche 911. The Z911 might be good for only 150 horsepower and 220 pound-feet of torque, but the 250-mile driving range from 54 kilowatt hours should make Genovation work harder with the successor of the GXE.

Oh, and if you were wondering, the price-to-range ratio for the e-Corvette works out at 5,769.23 dollars per mile.
