As opposed to Labour Day, World Book Day is a somewhat young event, we only started celebrating it ten years ago. It doesn’t mean we can’t push the pedal and promote reading, publishing and copyright when April 23 kicks in. SEAT did it in a unique way, filling up their X-Perience sporty hatchback with books.
The cultural celebration day was rather seen as a quiz by the Spanish carmakers who wanted to find out exactly how many books fit in the boot of their new 4WD hatch. To make it more interesting, they placed the car inside the municipal library in Sant Pere de Rives, near Barcelona. It took a spectacular operation that required removing large window panes and a special lorry to set the car down in the building.
Surrounded by well-stocked bookshelves, a team of “book promoters” managed to fill the boot with a total of 1,168 medium-sized editions. Sure, the idea is meant to encourage reading, but it also proves SEAT’s newborn is spacious enough to serve the entire family’s need.
The new Leon X-Perience features a very spacious luggage compartment, with a capacity of 587 liters in the rear seats, a volume that turns to 1,470 liters when they are folded. We have to admit, we found the car to be quite offering when we drove it ourselves.
The cabin of the X-Perience is well put together. Surprisingly, at the end of the day, the rubbery plastics, generous headroom and legroom for the occupants seated at the rear and the substantial cargo capacity are ingredients that make this puppy a special breed.
