In the world of automotive servicing, the “there’s an app for everything” saying doesn’t make too much, or so we thought. Apparently, we were wrong and, to correct ourselves, we’re bringing you an on-board diagnosis (OBD) system for your iPhone.
Coming from Chinese producer Launch (which explains its designation), the X431 iDiag Auto Diag Scanner allows IOS devices to connect to your car, promising full system diagnosis, among others.
To use this, you have to insert a Bluetooth connector into your vehicle’s OBD plug and install the dedicated software. which doesn’t necessarily come in the same package as the connection hardware. The latter consists of the main diagnostic unit, an OBDII cable, a password paper (you wouldn’t want strangers accessing your car, would you?) and a carry case.
The system brags that it can read and clear Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), read data stream information, perform actuation tests, as well as offer instant information and software upgrade reminding. Moreover, the system uses the Internet connection of your device to connect to a dedicate community aiming to “share technical experience”.
The X431 iDiag Auto Diag Scanner is compatible with a long list of Asian, European and American car brands. For instance, the marques range from Citroen, GAZ and Porsche to Ford and GM.
As for the pricing, the hardware part should set you back less than US$ 100 (EUR 72 at the current exchange rates). As for the software side of the deal, this is available on Launch's website.
