Not long ago, LeBron James made headlines on two separate occasions, both automotive related. First, because he potentially added to his already very impressive car collection a crazy vehicle, the Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet. Secondly, due to a rare sighting of him driving the sensational Porsche 918 Spyder.
Now, we see him taking to social media to indicate that his garage collection is getting even beefier. Or so he implies, because there’s a bit of a conundrum surrounding his “unveiling” of a brand new 2022 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1.
Seeing the accomplished professional basketball player and Los Angeles Lakers star tout the upcoming capabilities of the fully electric pickup truck is not exactly a surprise if one remembers that almost a year ago – in February 2020 – he was starring in “Quiet Revolution.” That was an ad (also embedded below) made by GMC to prepare for the arrival of the Hummer EV.
He’s been a brand ambassador for almost a year, and the fact is being publicly displayed in this video. So there’s no point in trash commenting that he’s being paid for this promotion; that’s plain obvious, and he’s not really hiding it.
With that out of the equation, and knowing that he doesn’t bring anything new in this quick walkaround we’ve embedded below (which is going to harass a lot of people’s retinas because of the video’s format), it’s time for the real question.
At one point in the quick tour (which also includes a quirky promotion of his son’s TikTok shenanigans for some reason), he explains how the Hummer EV can do “zero to 60 in three seconds, Crab Walk – meaning I can go sideways in this thing.”
And then he continues with an audience teaser: “don’t be surprised when you see me rollin’ down the street in this... now I might be sitting idle back at the crib, you know... might catch me in one of these LA streets rolling around.” The question is simple: are we going to see LeBron James become the first-ever owner of the 2021 GMC Hummer EV or not?
